08:30

GOOD MORNING

WE ARE LIVE.

We are 90 mins away from the start of the 2021 Winter Run and I think it’s fair to say, this edition is going to be a little different…

For obvious reasons, we cannot spend the day together. Over the last twelve months we have all been forced to adapt and that is why this year, we are asking runners to take on this challenge from the comfort – or should I say discomfort – of their own running trails.

Runners of course are used to adaptation be it to terrain or to injury or to the weather. Let us know how you are taking on today's challenge on social media using #WinterRun

08:37

TRAIN HARD, PLAY HARD

Many of you have been training through this toughest of tough winters. You’ve taken on the elements, the pandemic and the everything else CRAZY that is going on in the world at the moment to ensure that you are ready for today. Let’s take a look at some of you in action:

08:41

SNOW PLACE LIKE HOME

As has been the case for a number of weeks, many people in the UK will be able to enjoy a sprinkling of snow today. Whilst this might make your post run Instagram selfie all the more pretty, it can make running a little treacherous.

If you are running today we recommend that you take your time and wear lots of layers – especially a waterproof! Why not ask a member of your household to run by your side?

08:48

FEET UP IN FRONT OF THE FIRE

With inclement weather looming, many of you have already completed your 10k challenge. If you have finished, keep us informed about how you got on? By the looks of it, many of you already have using #WinterRun

08:56

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING TODAY?

Thousands of us are taking part today for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK won’t stop working towards making progress for people affected by cancer. But now more than ever, Cancer Research UK need support. Thank you for taking part and fundraising.

09:06

GET INVOLVED

We want to hear from you!

#WINTERRUN ON Social Media

Sam in Harrogate on Twitter – Taking on my first #WinterRun this year. Take care out there everyone! VERY snowy…but worth it to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK!

Freya in Surrey on Twitter – Because of covid we can’t run in London this year but so pleased everyone has raised so much money for Cancer Research UK! Well done all xxx

09:12

PROPER SNOW AND EVERYTHING

Love to see this Priyesh!...and a very speedy time as well!

09:20

THE WARM BEFORE THE STORM

Only 40 minutes to go until we kick off Winter Run ’21. It’s always important to warm up and cool down before a run so that you can avoid injury – especially with today’s cold weather.

Much like many things in last twelve months, this year’s warm up is accessible digitally by clicking on the video below. The warm up is being hosted by Auro, who have been providing you with training plans and virtual audio runs throughout your training. You can out more about Auro here.

09:28

CRUNCH THE NUMBERS

No doubt many of you will be having a final snack roundabout now. Perhaps, like Tanya, you're laying all your kit out on your bed and thinking 'Am I going to be warm enough?'.

I ran yesterday with my Official Winter Run number pinned to my technical tee. It was a great feeling to be going through the motions of preparing for a race after so a long time without being able to.

09:38

BADGE OF HONOUR

One of our favorite aspects of this year’s Winter Run are the badges that you’ve all been earning whilst clocking up the miles.

Badges can be obtained for running a number of distances, either during a one off run or cumulatively.

Bear Chills has been doing his best to pick up as many as possible, including the badge named after him, The Bear Chills Badge.

One of the most popular is the Friluftsliv badge. Friluftsliv means embracing the outdoors in the winter months – something many of you will be trying to do today!

CATWALK OR RUN THIS 10K

TEN MINUTES TO GO.

By now I would expect that you are kitted out and raring to go.

How are your nerves?

Those of you fortunate enough to have fundraised for Cancer Research UK might be wearing your jazzy Winter Run gear. Winter Runners are by default, the best dressed runners around but this year’s kit might be the best we’ve ever produced. It’s simply gorgeous, if we may say so.

09:51

HEART EMOJI

09:53

ICE ICE BABY

The Official London Winter Run playlist (called Penguin Party) is available on Spotify here. Why not listen to it while you run?

Remember, we want to hear everything about your day today! Since we’re not together in Trafalagar Square it matters all the more that you share your experience on social media #WINTERRUN

09:55

THE IMPORTANT BIT

Let’s not forget why many of us are taking on Winter Run this year.

The affect of the pandemic on charities everywhere has been devastating. At Winter Run HQ we are extremely proud of our runners and how much they have been able to fundraise for Cancer Research UK. To save lives tomorrow, Cancer Research UK need your support today.

We are approaching a record breaking figure and one big push might take us further than we’ve ever been before. For that we must say THANK YOU.

HELP 3/4 OF PEOPLE SURVIVE CANCER BY 2034

One last request to our amazing runners...

The last 12 months have been an incredibly difficult year for everyone.

Cancer Research UK funds around 50% of all cancer research here in the UK. But COVID-19 is threatening to severely impact their research, and make Cancer Research UK’s ambition of improving cancer survival to 3 in 4 by 2034 more difficult.

Cancer Research UK are absolutely determined to continue their life-saving research. But to save lives tomorrow, they need your help today.

14:00

GOODBYE...FOR NOW

That's all from us today. It has been a pleasure. You have made us laugh, cry and then cry some more. We cannot thank you enough for the support you have given Cancer Research UK over the last few months at a really vital time. Hopefully the next time we see each other, it will be in person, at the Cancer Research UK London Summer Run in September. Find out more about that event here:
